Meet VSO expert – Jovencia Postrano

Community volunteer Jovencia and her friend.
Lisa Marie David

Jovencia has been a VSO expert for the past 25 years in her home country of the Philippines. From learning legal skills to accurately reporting illegal fishing to the authorities, to learning how to make her own biofertiliser - Jovenica has provided a lot of support to her community as the leader of the biofertiliser group.

She brings women come together to make biofertiliser from molasses, fish waste, water and shredded plant waste. The income from the biofertiliser is helping to pay for their children’s education.

About VSO Ireland

Sending aid to vulnerable communities is important, but lasting change is better. VSO Ireland builds skills, knowledge and know-how together with some of the world’s most marginalised people.

VSO experts give girls an equal chance

With these extra skills and support people can build independent and dignified lives. This kind of long-lasting change shows why VSO Ireland does things differently, supporting education, health and livelihood experts like Jovencia in communities around the world.
