VSO volunteers must have: a degree, at least three years post qualification experience and, in general, be willing to spend at least six months overseas volunteering.

What you'll need to apply
Once you’ve found a placement you’re interested in applying for, please read the person specification of the job description attached to the advert and check you meet the minimum criteria for the role.
You’ll need 30-40 minutes to complete the online application form. This needs to be done in one single sitting. If you require an alternative application format, please contact us
It’s a good idea to gather together the information you’ll need before applying. Here’s a list of what you’ll need to upload or include:
- personal details
- details of your current or most recent employment (for example; job title, dates of employment, summary of responsibilities)
- updated CV in Word format (max size 200KB). Click here to view a sample CV
- supporting statement of maximum 1500 words (you’ll need to refer to the job description attached to the advert for this in order to detail how you meet the criteria specified).
After you've applied
Once you’ve submitted your application, you'll receive a confirmation email containing further information about the next steps.
Your application will be considered by our team and you’ll be informed if you’ve been shortlisted for the volunteer role within two weeks of the closing date detailed on the placement for which you applied.

If you are looking for short term or summer placements, please visit our colleagues in Comhlámh who operate a database of volunteer sending agencies in Ireland. They may be able to assist you in finding a volunteer role overseas.
