Is Africa about to lose the AIDs fight?
12/07/2010
The AIDs fight in Africa could soon come under threat as vital funds to tackle the illness are due to get redirected to other nations.
According to African children's charity Compassion International "for millions of Africans, the value of a life may soon be worthless".
The group noted that out of the 840 million people who live in Africa, 33 million are affected by AIDs and while large amounts of funding have been sent to African nations in a bid to help combat the conditions, some organisations are now looking to redistribute money elsewhere.
Many "no longer see the AIDs fight as a valid use of their resources", it said.
As well as helping to provide much needed drugs to fight the condition, Compassion International work to counsel those who have lost loved ones to the disease as well as provide food and help to children who have lost parents.
More than two thirds of all the world's HIV and AIDs sufferers live in sub-Saharan Africa.
