Rwandan 'education boost is backed'
18/05/2010
The investment in girls' education in Rwanda is brilliant, an expert has claimed.
General Dr Asha Rose Migiro, the United Nations (UN) deputy secretary, called the outlay in the sector "massive", the New Times reports.
"This is a living example of investing in human resource," she observed, "It will definitely have a multiplier effect on Rwanda's growth."
Gen Migro noted that it is a country on the move, as female empowerment is professed as a positive attribute.
She told students at the FAWE Girls School - which has 36 teachers and 770 pupils - not to let anyone "clip [their] wings".
According to Gen Migro, the UN will continue to support the country as it strives to promote learning to all females in the state.
Recently, the National Association of Nigerian Students had to deny it intended to stage a political protest against the decision of former president Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida to run in the 2011 presidential election, allAfrica.com reported.
