Zimbabwean government unveils new agriculture loan facility
02/09/2009
The government of Zimbabwe has unveiled a new agricultural loaning facility that it states will allow farmers in the country to access inputs ahead of the 2009-10 summer cropping season.
Farmers will be able to repay the loans in the form of seeds and fertiliser after their crops are harvested, the Herald reports.
Agriculture, mechanisation and irrigation development minister Joseph Made issued a statement yesterday in which he noted that the inputs would be distributed via the Grain Marketing Boards depots across the country.
"Farmers are encouraged to approach their respective commercial banks either as individuals or as groups where release orders/vouchers will be issued," the regional news resource quotes him as saying.
Mr Made said that delivery schedules have been created based on the requirements of different regions of Zimbabwe.
In recent days, All Africa noted that talks are due to take place between the Zimbabwean government and the Zimbabwe Teachers Association to try and avert a teachers' strike.
