VSO has been working in the Balkans since the mid-1990s, supporting partners working social service delivery and community development across the Balkans region. Although our international volunteer programme in the Balkans closed in March 2005, we now focus on the supporting national volunteering in the region.
Youth Initiative is a long-standing VSO partner involved in setting up the Balkans participatory practitioners network. Youth Initiatives have established a youth volunteering centre in Skopje and continues to promote and develop volunteering among young people in Macedonia.
Together with the non-governmental organisation Peace Action, Youth Initiative are working on a programme of peace-building through volunteering, involving young people in workshops and theatre performances focused on conflict resolution.
